Gil Morales is a prolific trading author and educator with over 30 years of experience in the markets. His style is very no-nonsense and based on his own backtested strategies. In this Simcast episode, we get an entertaining look at Gil's storied career, his trading style, and what's working for him in current markets.
Gil Morales's History
Gil started in the early 90s with just $3k. In the beginning, he was an aspiring and talented cartoonist. Back then, he was in debt and was looking to change his situation. After applying to and getting rejected by several financial management firms, his perseverance finally paid off. Gil had an econ degree from Stanford and finally had a chance to put his skills to work.
After a number of years as a successful financial advisor, Gil got a call from Bill O'Neil. Through the dot com boom, Gil managed money for Bill as his Chief Market Strategist. While there, he ghost-authored a few books with Bill. However, he left his post in 2005 and pursued his own writing and trading career.
Gil Morales's Books and Education
We've mentioned some of Gil's strategies here at TradingSim, from his buyable gap ups to his vdu and pocket pivots (and how we've learned to apply them to day trading). However, in this episode, we get a sneak peek at some of his other strategies, like how he uses the 6/20 MACD indicator on his 5-minute charts. Along those lines, we also get to see his double top shorting strategy. Gil will often use these to go 400% short right off the open!
If you want to learn more about Gil's strategies, he has an affordable service at Gilmoreport.com. Here, Gil loves to teach the strategies he's written about for many decades. For book lovers, we highly recommend all his works.
